Native to East Africa, this exceptional member of the Moraceae family features a striking caudex growth form: a swollen, woody basal stem (caudex) that gradually expands with age, reaching 5-10cm in diameter at maturity, while the above-ground foliage grows to 10-20cm tall. Its most captivating trait is the deeply crisped, ruffled leaves—ovate to lanceolate foliage (3-6cm long, 1-2cm wide) emerges in clusters from the caudex top, with heavily crinkled edges and a soft, fuzzy texture (hence "绵叶" meaning "cottony leaf"). The leaves boast a vibrant green hue with subtle lighter veins, and their wrinkled surface creates a lush, textured appearance that stands out among other succulents. Unlike typical succulents, it produces unique disc-shaped inflorescences (cyathia-like structures) in summer, adding an extra layer of botanical interest.
