Product Description

  • Origin: Native to the Western Cape region of South Africa, where it grows in shaded, moist habitats such as forest edges and rocky crevices.
  • Growth: Forms a compact, clumping habit with thick, creeping rhizomes. Reaches 8-12 inches (20-30cm) tall and wide. Leaves are dark green, heart-shaped, with prominent veining and a slightly fuzzy texture that adds tactile appeal.
  • Flowers: Blooms in spring to summer, producing clusters of small, pale pink to white flowers on slender stalks above the foliage. Flowers are delicate and airy, enhancing the plant’s soft, graceful appearance.
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light (3-4 hours daily). Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch leaves; ideal for east-facing windows or shaded outdoor spots.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry; reduce watering slightly in winter, but never let soil dry out completely.
  • Soil & Potting: Use well-draining, nutrient-rich mix of peat moss + perlite + potting soil (2:1:1 ratio). Choose a shallow pot to accommodate spreading rhizomes; ensure adequate drainage holes.
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 9-11. Tolerates temperatures down to 40°F (4°C); in colder climates, grow as a houseplant or bring indoors during winter.
