Product Description

• Origin: Native to southern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana, adapted to dry savannas and rocky slopes with seasonal rainfall.
• Growth: Develops a large, fleshy caudex (up to 16 inches/40cm diameter) that can grow partially underground. Slender, twining vines reach 6-10 feet (1.8-3m) long; leaves are small, oval, and deciduous (drop in dry periods).
• Flowers: Blooms in summer with clusters of tiny, fragrant white flowers near vine tips. Flowers are star-shaped and attract pollinators; mature plants (5+ years) bloom more prolifically.
• Light: Requires bright direct to indirect light (4-6 hours daily). Full sun encourages caudex growth; insufficient light leads to leggy vines and sparse foliage.
• Watering: Water moderately during active growth (spring-summer)—let soil dry completely between waterings. Reduce to rare watering in winter (dormancy); overwatering causes caudex rot.
• Soil & Potting: Use well-draining mix of cactus soil + pumice + orchid bark (3:2:1 ratio). Plant caudex with 1/3 exposed above soil; choose a deep pot to accommodate root growth.
• Hardiness: USDA zones 9-11. Tolerates brief temps down to 32°F (0°C); keep indoors or protect from frost in colder climates.
