Product Description

  • Origin: Native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, adapted to moist, well-drained soils in tropical forests and open woodlands.
  • Growth: Grows as a shrub or small tree, reaching 10-20 feet (3-6 meters) tall. Bark is grayish-brown, while the inner heartwood matures to a deep crimson red. Leaves are pinnately compound with 6-12 pairs of small, oval leaflets, creating a lush, feathery foliage appearance.
  • Flowers: Blooms in late spring to summer, producing dense clusters of bright yellow, pea-like flowers at the branch tips. Flowers are showy and fragrant, attracting bees and butterflies, adding lively color to the foliage.
  • Light: Requires full sunlight (6-8 hours daily) for optimal growth and flowering. Tolerates light partial shade but may produce fewer blooms; best placed in unshaded spots in tropical/subtropical gardens.
  • Watering: Water moderately during active growth—keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Tolerates short dry periods once established; reduce watering slightly in cooler months, avoiding prolonged drought.
  • Soil & Potting: Use well-draining, fertile soil mix of loam + compost + perlite (3:2:1 ratio). For container growth, choose a large, deep pot to accommodate its root system; ensure adequate drainage holes.
  • Hardiness: USDA zones 10-12. Thrives in temperatures above 60°F (15°C); cannot tolerate frost—keep indoors or in a heated greenhouse in zones below 10.
